WE BUILT THIS CITYBy Polyglot Theatre. Season ended. On paper it sounds simple: kids and adults are set loose in a sprawling sea of cardboard boxes to build a metropolis in miniature. No rules, no games, no real outcome but play. In practice, it's easy to see why Polyglot has been successfully touring the work for a decade. Freed from a prescribed objective, the kids produce their own stories, though there's no shortage of dads who take the construction side of things very seriously indeed. The recent season outside the Arts Centre often saw the same children returning day after day to continue their efforts. And when each city was done, it all came tumbling down so that building could begin again.
